We are a group of experienced pain physicians, physical therapists, psychologists, and nurse practitioners dedicated full time to the management of chronic pain and cancer pain. We are not part time pain practitioners nor do we dabble in fad treatments that have been proven not to be effective such as anti-ageing therapies. We are completely immersed in the clinical practice of chronic pain management and surgery, and engage actively in teaching at IU and nationally, are on the national board of directors of pain organizations, and continually engage in pain research. At night, we answer questions for patients on pain.com as one of the contributing physician directors, and also other pain organizations such as Pain Aid. Pain medicine for us is not just a job, it is a mission that is all encompassing. Your pain never stops, and we will not cease in our efforts to find ways to relieve your pain with new and better treatments. We care for patients that require admission to hospitals for pain issues at St Francis Hospital and Community South Hospitals only. These hospitals have the equipment, expertise, and staff to best assist in care of pain patients in this area of the state. Because of our long term presence in the area, we are connected to the quality primary care physicians referenced on the home page of this website that have been proven to be compassionate and educated in chronic pain. We do not refer to specific Internists that have shown themselves unsympathetic or overtly hostile to the plight of the chronic pain patient. Because of the need for better therapies, we are dedicated to the evaluation and implementation of cutting edge techniques including the new field of minimally invasive spine surgery. Some of the advanced techniques we employ are used by less than 10 other pain practices in the US. Some of our therapies on the cutting edge may have unknown or higher risks associated with them, but because in many cases traditional pain therapies are insufficient, we are willing to go beyond the routine treatments to find a better way for your care. We believe in patients rights to pain management to reduce suffering and incorporate as part of an integrated plan, narcotic therapies where appropriate. However, the presence of pain is not synonymous with a deficit of narcotics. Therefore we incorporate adjunctive therapies in pain management in addition to narcotics. We believe in reducing substance abuse and diversion, and work actively with local law enforcement when there is felonious use or sale of narcotics. We are patient advocates within reason, but do not advocate patients seeking disability unless there is absolutely no other way.
