
Michael L. Whitworth, MD is a national leader in education of
other physicians and affiliated practitioners. He is former course
director for the SPPM national courses, is a faculty instructor
and lecturer for ISIS, ASIPP, PASSOR, and is a board member of
the International Spinal Intervention Society. He is the first pain
management physician in the US to perform selective
endoscopic discectomy and has years of experience in the this
minimally invasive technique. He was the first in Indiana to
perform coblation nucleoplasty, endoscopic laser scar tissue
resection from the spine, laser facet neurotomy, and a large
array of other techniques. With continuing activity in pain
research, he remains on the cutting edge of pain therapies and
the most advanced technologies for treatment and diagnosis of
pain conditions. Dr. Whitworth holds board certifications from
the American Board of Pain Medicine, American Board of
Interventional Pain Medicine, American Board of Minimally
Invasive Spine Medicine and Surgery, American Board of
Anesthesiology, American Academy of Pain Management, and is
a fellow of the International Institute of Pain and the
International College of Surgeons. He is on the board of
directors of the two largest physician pain organizations in the
US: ISIS and American Academy of Pain Medicine
Janet Smith, FNP-C, is an integral part of our practice at
Advanced Pain Management. With experience in
neurosurgical nursing and a certified nurse practitioner
having completed her Masters Degree studies in advanced
practice nursing at IU, she is qualified to diagnose and
recommend treatments in pain management. Janet
performs in-office injection therapy and manages complex
pain situations for our practice. She serves to complete the
pain management continuum of care seamlessly with the
physicians of the practice. Janet is very compassionate to
the plight of the chronic pain patient while maintaining our
clinic's capability to operate through enforcement of federal
and state laws, and clinic regulations.
Melanie Hart, PT is a chronic pain physical therapist with
many years of experience treating the chronic pain
population. She incorporates a fusion of multiple techniques
which have been demonstrated to work for the chronic pain
patient. All PT modalities and therapies are employed
including manual therapies, modified MacKenzie,
iontopheresis, graded traction, mobilization of soft tissues,
and functional restoration techniques. In addition to being a
well known physical therapist, she has taught at local
universities. Melanie has offices at the Marr Road Physical
Therapy site She is the author of the Physical Therapy
Corner on this website.
Jennifer is our main receptionist and
secretary, responsible for
scheduling appointments,
coordinating referrals, and arranges
diagnostic tests. She also serves as
our HIPAA compliance officer and
notary for medical records.
The most valuable member of our practice is
Katrina Whitworth, BSN, MHA who organizes the
office structures, interfaces with other practices,
and is instrumental in making the practice run
smoothly as our office manager. She also
assists in surgery and performs advanced
nursing duties in our office.
